At the Early Social Development Lab, we always have a variety of studies on the go for children from birth through early childhood. All our studies are safe, fun, and quick! If you’re interested in participating or learning more about our research, please contact us
What to Expect
If you decide to participate, you will be asked to choose a time that is convenient for you and your child to come into the lab. In general, we’re available Monday through Saturday in the morning, afternoon and evening. We’re very flexible and do our best to accommodate parents’ schedules.
Most of our studies involve one 30-45 minute visit to the lab. When you arrive, your child will be given a few minutes to play and warm-up in our playroom. While your child plays, a researcher will go over the details of the study with you and you’ll be given the opportunity to ask questions. You’ll then be asked to read and sign a consent form containing all the information you and the researcher just discussed.
Your child will then be invited to participate in a fun game or activity with the researcher (click here to see our current studies). Parents are welcome to sit in and watch as their child participates.
After completing the study, your child will be awarded a certificate for all of his/her hard work. S/he will also be given the opportunity to choose a small toy from our prize bag that s/he can take home.
How to Find Us
Our lab is located in the Life Sciences Centre on the Dalhousie Campus. You can find directions to our lab here. We have free reserved parking for participating families right outside the lab.
We’re extremely grateful to all the parents who bring their children in to participate in our studies. The success of our research depends on the help of local parents like you and we really appreciate your time and effort! Thank you!
